Mother Rhoda A. Johnson Spearman, soldier and servant of God and wife of Simeon L. Spearman, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Mother Rhoda was born in Pittsburgh, PA, August 10, 1944, a daughter of the late Wilbur Johnson, Sr. and Annie Mae Hill Johnson. She was a former member of Allen Chapel AME Church in Greenwood, SC and current member of this house of God. She was SC State Mother of HVM, Inc. She was a graduate of Westinghouse High School and graduate of Duff Business College in Pittsburgh, PA, specializing in Medical Transcription. She retired in July 2010 after 32 years of service from Self Regional Medical Center as a Medical Transcriptionist.
Mother Rhoda was preceded in death by one brother: Bishop Wilbur Johnson, Jr. and one sister: Joyce Ann Burton.
Mother Rhoda leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Simeon L Spearman; three daughters, Pastor Robin L. and husband Elder David Smith of Greenwood, Shiree L. Spearman and special friend Reggie Terriel of Greenwood and Ware Shoals SC, Teka Joi Spearman of the home; one son, Simeon T. and wife Towanda Spearman of Greenwood; two sisters, Apostle Armenia Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA, and Evangelist Theresa D. "Cloud Eagle" and husband Larry Nelson of Gahanna, OH; one brother, Melvyn C. and wife Frances Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three aunts, Nora Jane Hill and Bertha Hill, both of Pittsburgh, PA, and Emmaline Deal of Abbeville, SC; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to mourn her passing.
Memorial services were held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Allen Chapel AME Church in Greenwood, SC with Rev. Julius Crawford, pastor and presided; Elder David Smith officiated; and Rev. Phillip C. Anderson, Elder Louis Jackson, Bishop Emanuel Spearman, and Rev. Melton Aiken assisted. The family received friends at the home, and her ashes were laid to rest in the Mausoleum of Oakbrook Memorial Park in Hodges, SC.
Mother Rhoda will truly be missed, not only for her integral role at In God's Hands Ministries, but as a child of the living God. Our hearts may be saddened, but our loss is heavens gain, and we will glorify God for His use of His child and His graciousness in allowing us to have been blessed by her presence. Thank you Lord for the time you gave her to us, and thank you for the place you prepared for her.
