Bishop Wilbur Johnson. Jr. was the oldest of six children born on January 31, 1937 in Pittsburgh. PA to the late Deacon Wilbur Johnson. Sr. and Annie Mae Johnson.

He became saved and baptized at a young age at the New Light Temple Baptist Church. His parents formed the Johnson Gospel Singers in which he performed with his brothers and sisters and other relatives. They traveled around the country ministering with the top gospel singers of that time.

In 1954, the Johnson family became members of Nazarene Baptist Church under Pastor W.D. Patett. where they remained until God lead him to New Jersey.

He attended school in Pittsburgh. PA graduating from Schenley High School. Following high school. he joined the Marine Corps. After leaving the Marines he later went on to serve in the Army. While in the military he took up boxing. which he continued after leaving the army as well as participating in wrestling and weight lifting competitions.

He moved to Trenton. New Jersey where he mastered the building trade and became a private contractor building custom homes along the New Jersey coast. He continued his learning and became certified in heating, air conditioning and plumbing. Also while in New Jersey he married and became the father of five
daughters and a son.

As he matured he became more focused on his relationship with God and went on to study various aspects of spirituality and religion entering theological seminary in Trenton, New Jersey and received his certification in theology.

He joined and became actively involved in the Greater Emmanuel Pentecostal Church of God, Inc. under the late Dr. Bishop P.E. Jennette. Under his tutelage he became a Diocese Bishop. which office he continued until death.

In 1991, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Bishop Johnson and his sister, Dr. Armenia Johnson founded Heavenly Vision Ministries, Inc. Under Heavenly Vision Ministries they also established Holy Temple, which served as their place of worship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter.

He leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Terrie Williams, Krishna Powell (Anthony), Johanna Truitt, Shadriea Johnson and son, Jamal Johnson; brother Melvyn Johnson (Frances), sister Rev. Dr. Armenia Johnson, Joyce A. Burton, Rhoda A. Spearman (Simeon), Theresa D. Nelson (Larry); 7 grandchildren; devoted goddaughter Renita Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
